Evidence is the available facts or information that show whether a belief or position is true and logical.
If you have to support an opinion or position, the first thing you will need to do is make sure you have good EVIDENCE.
For the steps in EXPLORE 1, you’re going to practice thinking like a detective. A detective is an investigator who searches for clues in order to reach the truth.
In the activities below, you need to look for EVIDENCE that will help you solve the puzzles. After each puzzle, complete the reflection activity in your Explore 1 Packet on Classroom.
Step 2: Escape Room 1 - Og's Adventure
This activity will help you practice your observational skills.
You're going to be completing a digital escape room. This will require you to use your powers of observation, reason, deduction, and grit.
Instructions: working with your group, go to the following link: Og's Great Adventure Link. Do your best to solve the Digital Escape Room. When you've solved it, let your teacher know so he/she can assign you credit. If possible, ONE student should have a MacBook or Chromebook, since hyperlinks will be easier to see on the laptop. (Classcraft XP - 100).
Complete the Step 2 Reflection activity on your Explore 1 Packet. (2 pts.)
Step 3: Escape Room 2 - Open the Pool
Now you have a little bit of experience in solving an Escape Room. Use the same critical thinking skills you’ve practiced to try a more challenging Escape Room. Working with your group, go to the following link: Open the Pool.
When you've solved the Escape Room, let your teacher know so he/she can assign you credit. If possible, ONE student should have a MacBook or Chromebook, since hyperlinks will be more clearly visible on the laptop. (Classcraft XP - 150)
Complete the Step 3 Reflection activity on your Explore 1 Packet. (2 pts.)
Step 4: Crime Scene Investigation
As you completed the Escape Rooms, you were able to practice looking for clues and evidence.
In the next activity, you'll be more like a real detective. Look at the crime scene image posted on Classroom. Read about the crime on your Explore 1 Packet under Step 4. What do you think happened? Base your conclusions on evidence in the image. You may work with your group to identify the significant evidence in the picture.
When you feel you've found all the evidence, make a conclusion about what happened.
Reflect on your group's conclusions by completing the Step 4 Discussion on Schoology. Make sure you point out the evidence that led you to this conclusion. After you've posted your own thoughts, reply to two other people who AREN'T in your group. Tell them whether or not you agreed with them and why. Before you begin, examine the Discussion Rubric below, as this will be scored. (10 points)
Complete the Step 4 Reflection activity on your Explore 1 Packet. (2 points)
Step 5: Using EVIDENCE - Crime Scene Explanation
On your Explore 1 Packet, read about the background of the crime under Step 5.
Examine the Crime Scene Evidence provided by your teacher.
You may discuss what you think happened.
Your teacher will provide you with a paper Comic Strip template. Independently, create a comic strip showing what you think happened.
Work with your group to select the strongest comic strip from among your group members. Your group will be presenting this to the class. Each individual student will hand in his/her comic strip to be graded. (10 points)
3 points - logic
3 points - spelling/conventions
4 points - attractive/neat
Present your comic strip. The class will decide if your solution seems logical and probable.
Complete the reflection paragraph in your Explore 1 Packet on classroom. This is a Collins Type 3 prompt worth 9 points. You will find the FCA's on your packet.
